Recent happenings

Here's a few pictures to catch things up from the last couple of weeks. Gizmo was sprayed by a skunk Friday night. He spent the night in the garage until I came back Saturday with peroxide for his cool dip. We've lived in a rural area for two years with two cats. I guess we were due.


Rebecca loves looking at her books. I think she would be happy with a room full of books and no other toys. That doesn't keep her from taking out all of her other toys though.

Usually it's Justin and Jackson that eat at this table. Rebecca ate a snack at this table for the first time last week. She thought she was so big. Now she just likes to sit there just because. :)

Rebecca had her first lollipop, and first candy that I know of. She probably has candy at someone else's house. Granny is the one who would know about that. It was a tootsie pop, and she only had a few licks. She did not get to the tootsie roll center, I did. :)

Just being silly. . .

We had an over the hill party for Steve Friday night. His birthday was October 30th, but that was the weekend before the election, so we waited for things to settle down to have a party.

Uncle Davey and Aunt Naomi came over. Rebecca loves to sit in a lap and look at books.

The car on the cake is actually a 1970 car, for the year Steve was born. Naomi made another great cake!

Sunday night there was a reception after church to celebrate Steve's winning the election. Here he is giving his little speech.

Rebecca and Gizmo

Our cat Nova doesn't seem to care that there's a baby in the house, and Rebecca generally leaves her alone. But Rebecca and Gizmo love playing with each other! Gizmo is pretty much terrified of most boys and shoes. I don't know, he's weird. He runs out of the room if anyone is walking around wearing shoes. But he seems to like Rebecca. They follow each other around. She smacks him around a little and he chew on her toes occasionally. (Gizmo chews on things like tables, chairs, toes, fingers. Like I said, he's weird.) They're pretty cute. She doesn't like to play in her room very long by herself, but if Gizzy is in there with her, she'll play in there for a long time.

This week

Here's a few pictures from this week. Rebecca likes going outside with her Daddy while he works in the yard and the garden.

Here she was playing in her exersaucer and eating puffs. Sometimes she tilts her head to her right for some reason.



She copies us sometimes now I started this, and she copied me. She was eating green beans, and this is probably how she felt about eating them.

Rebecca and Gizmo love to play together. And she loves looking out the windows.

Gizmo

This is what I have been faced with this afternoon as I'm trying to check my e-mail and do other important stuff, like get on facebook. He seems to want a lot of attention today. He keeps jumping on my computer table, blocking my screen, laying all over the keyboard, opening pictures. Then he proceeds to groom himself, acting as if he doesn't actually want me to love on him when he really does. Maybe I should forget about facebook and e-mail and just take a nap. :)

4-25 Yard Sales

I got these old wooden spools at a rummage sale Saturday at the high school. I'm sure many people would look at these and think "Uh, why?". I love them, and everyone knows I like old stuff like that. Antiques are cool, okay.


They fit well on top of the armoire in the guest room. Steve's great great grandmother's armoire has at last found it's home upstairs. After my parents and Joy and John moved here, it finally got moved. I love this armoire! I know it's at least 75 years old, maybe older.


And I got this bench for our porch. I need to make a cushion for it. I know, another project to add to my list. :) Notice Toby in the picture. He followed me all weekend.


Joy and John and my parents all went to Memphis this weekend, so we were dog sitting this weekend. Puppies are high maintenance! (hence the newspaper on the floor in the above picture) But he's more cuddly than our cats and he likes to be held. Steve says we can't get a dog, but I really don't want one. I'll just have Toby come visit once in a while. He likes our cat food for some reason. I didn't starve him. I really did feed him his puppy food!

Toby

Joy and John have a new member of their family. Someone from the church they've been visiting gave them a 6 week old miniature daschund. They brought him to our house yesterday. He's really, really cute and loves to be held. He follows Justin around like a, well, a puppy. They decided to call him Toby. Did I mention how cute he is? How cute his short wittle legs are, and his sad-looking puppy dog eyes? But I think we're destined to be cat owners. Steve seems to be allergic to dogs.

House stuff

Steve put in a couple of doors last week. The only one left is the basement door, which we don't have yet. I painted some of the door frames this weekend so Steve could get in some more baseboards. After painting two coats of primer and one coat of paint on 15 doors, I really, really wish he had gotten the doors that had the frame already primed.



And here's the curtain I got for the back bedroom. Steve said it's 'girly'. But the room is pink. This is the room in question. I still haven't been able to get that white stuff off all of our windows.


And our cat Nova likes to climb on our roof and watch the world go by. Actually she likes to climb anything.

Just a couple of pictures of our cats. This one is of Gizmo sleeping in his favorite spot. I find this is the best time to trim his claws to be sure the don't end up embedded in my skin. This way he doesn't even wake up.

Back bedroom and our kitten

I finished painting the old iron bed Saturday morning before I went to my yard sales. This is the bed that belonged to Aunt Hattie and was in Steve's grandma's garage for years. I got the rust off and painted it last week. Then I found this quilt and shams for $10 at a yard sale over the weekend, so it worked out great.

Some more pictures of our kitten. He seems to like his new home, and he and Nova love to play and wrestle. I think we've decided on a name for him, but I'll share that after our little poll goes away in a few days.

New cat

We have another pet at our house. Steve thought Nova needed a friend, and I let him talk me into getting another cat. Steve picked him up last night. We haven't named him yet, so let me know if you have any suggestions. It took a little while for Nova to warm up to him. Now she wants to play with him, but she gets kind of rough and it scares him. But he's adjusting to his new home and seems to be doing pretty good.

We have plumbing!

We went to the house last night to take some of our boxes. Our plumbers came to the house yesterday and put in our sinks, toilets, and fixtures. Our shower fixtures aren't in yet. One wasn't in stock and had to be ordered, and the other one was a different brand & didn't fit, so we have to get a different one. But the rest are in! (Except for the kitchen sink, which we can't put in until we get our countertops and Corian sink.)






We took Nova with us last night. She loves riding in the car and going on trips. And she loves running around the house and exploring. It's almost like having a dog. :)


And here's all of our interior doors. I will have to prime and paint the frames before we can put them in. So we'll still have a lot to do even after we move in this weekend. We won't have kitchen countertops, a kitchen sink, garage door, or doors inside, but we still can't wait to move!

Part canine and some house news

This is what greets us whenever we come home. A little blurry. She even seems to recognize our car. Every time I pull into the apartment complex, she jumps up, stretches, and runs to the door. Either she recognizes our car, or she does this every time any car pulls in. We went to the house last night to work on some stuff, and Steve wanted to take the cat. She loves riding in the car. I think there may be a dog in her family tree. She plays fetch, she does tricks, she loves to go for rides in the car. One of these days, I'm going to get a video of her doing her tricks and post it.

But anyway, we have electricity at our house now! And not just from an extension cord going out to the pole. Entergy came Monday morning and got it hooked up and put in our meter. And we have a septic tank. They haven't finished, but it's in the ground. Lots of things are happening at the Meeks house! It's a good thing too, because we have less than 3 weeks until we move in. We have a member at the credit union that says the following all the time. You know what the monkey said when the lawnmower ran over his tail: It won't be long now! :)

More hide and seek

This is one of Nova's favorite hiding spots. She seems to think that if she can't see you, then you can't see her. Sometimes she likes to play and pounce on feet and hands. Sometimes she just lays down behind the shower curtain. Weird cat.

Ratatouille

More pictures of Nova. We watched Ratatouille last night for the first time. The part at the end with all the rats in the kitchen really grossed me out, but it was a cute movie. I liked it, and so did Nova. She does sit in front of the tv sometimes and follow the movements.

Balancing Act

Nova has a fascination with water. She likes to watch the water drain in the tub and the sink. Sometimes, just turining a faucet on, brings her running to watch the water. Weird cat. So one morning, I found her with all fours on the tub faucet balancing and looking around the tub.

Cat in the bag

Nova likes to hide in or under things, and pounce on her prey (our feet) as it/they goes by. I went to Target last week, and they had these environmentally friendly bags. Inspired by Stacia and her totes, I got one. I brought it home, and hung it from the chair by the door, so I would remember to take it back out to the car for my next Target trip. A few minutes later the bag was on the floor, attacking my foot. Actually it was the cat in the bag that attacked my foot.

Cat quirks

Nova likes to bite on the lid of the cat feeder, and the other night when I was filled it up. Before I closed the lid, she just started eating from the top of it. Weird cat.

Sweet little kitty

Doesn't she look cute? I'd like to tell you our little kitten (not so little anymore) is always well behaved and a joy to be around. But she's not! When she's awake she's a furry ball of energy, climbing all over the blinds, scaling the Christmas tree, playing with pens and straws (she likes these for some reason, and has learned where I hide my pens and pencils and snowman Christmas ornaments.) Overall she's a good cat, and I think she'll grow out of this constant bounciness. We should have called her Tigger! Hey, we don't have kids, so we take pictures of our pets. :)
