Rebecca saw Santa Claus the other day and got a candy cane from Grandma (or Mrs. Claus, as the rest of us would call her). She doesn't really know much about Santa Claus, but she likes singing Santa Claus is Coming to Town. :)

Pop

Rebecca enjoying a lollipop can only mean one thing in this house. I'll spare you the details, but it's a big deal for this three year old! She looks pretty cute with giant plastic lips too.

Sick day

Rebecca seemed to have caught a stomach bug and was feeling yucky yesterday. So she and I spent the day in bed watching movies. I didn't get much done, but we had a nice, lazy day (other than cleaning up a couple of messes).

Potty training is going better this week than it has been in the last month. Today we had a conversation that went something like this:

Mommy: Do you need to go potty? (she's never responded with anything but no, but I still ask.)
Rebecca: No, how 'bout. . . .Dora go potty?
Mommy: No, Rebecca, go potty.
Rebecca: How 'bout Aunt Joy go potty?
Mommy: No, Rebecca, go potty.
Rebecca: How 'bout Baby go potty?

You get the idea. Things are getting better though. We spend a lot less time sitting on the potty waiting, and singing songs, and waiting, and reading books, and waiting. . .

Sleep comes at last

Rebecca decided to get up this morning at 5:30 and didn't get back to sleep. She usually sleeps late, so this was pretty unusual. I put her in her bed for her nap as usual, but she was determined to stay awake. She really didn't even act tired. She just talked to herself and rolled around in her bed, on the floor, her usual nap time routine. I finally got her up, gave her a snack, and she was soon crawling in the recliner and quickly falling asleep. Maybe it was the snack.

Bracelets

Rebecca love bracelets. This is how she puts them on by herself, lately in this order: green, blue, purple, pink.

Yellow

This morning when she ate breakfast, Rebecca wanted to sit in the yellow chair by the yellow table leg. It had to be the yellow chair by the yellow leg. The yellow chair by the red leg was not acceptable. She did sleep in her bed last night, all night. Lately she ends up on the floor or under the bed at some point.

More pictures in the daffodils

Joy came by with the boys today so we could take some more pictures. It was really warm this afternoon! It did not feel like March at all. I started out with my camera on the wrong setting, and the pictures were way too bright. Those first few pictures were the best one we got of the three kids together. Of course. I'm still kicking myself over that one! Ugh!

This was one of the few from the beginning that wasn't totally washed out. Changing it to black and white helped, but I'm still totally kicking myself.

Coloring

Daffodils

The daffodils are blooming here, so I've been wanting to get some pictures of Rebecca. Every year I say I want to go to Wye Mountain, but we never make it. So for now these will have to do until our some day trip to Wye Mountain.

Strawberry House

A friend at church, who Rebecca calls "Juju" found this Strawberry Shortcake playhouse at a yard sale. Juju has been saying that Rebecca needs a tent and a sleeping bag. A few months ago I actually found a vintage Strawberry Shortcake sleeping bag. Now she has the tent to complete the set. I put her playhouse together Sunday afternoon. She loved it! Now I've moved it into her room, and she doesn't seem as interested. I think she'll still enjoy it, and I'm sure we'll find her sleeping in it before long.

The daffodils are blooming here and it's cloudy today, so I hope to get some pictures of Rebecca outside soon! Stay tuned for pictures of a cute little girl in a smocked dress bought by Granny when Rebecca was just a few months old. I love smocking.

More nap time antics

Nap time routine

Rebecca's recent nap time routine goes something like this:

1) Pile every book she can find in her bed and look at them all.

2) Find some small toys to drop between the wall and the bed.

3) Crawl under bed and play with toys for awhile.

4) Giggle when Mommy opens the door to check on her.

5) Get back in bed and talk to Dora about her day.

6) Try to reach the toys she dropped behind the bed.

7) Finally fall asleep an hour after going down for a nap.

Dress ups & tea parties

We've been staying busy lately, but have had time for a tea party here and there. She hasn't been interested in wearing the dress up clothes, but she loves bracelets, hats, and other accessories.

Sorry about the weird lines. Blogger has been doing that to me lately.

Nap time?

This is how I found Rebecca yesterday afternoon when I went to get her up from her nap. She seems to enjoy crawling under the bed. She did it today too.

PB & J

Rebecca has been eating all of her sandwiches, and anything resembling a sandwich, a little different lately. She takes it apart and east the inside, then the bread. This is particularly messy with peanut butter and jelly. At first I tried to get her to eat it together, and I finally gave up and just took pictures.

She'll hate these pictures one day. :)


When she was done, there was peanut butter everywhere, which by the way has gotten really expensive around here!

Croatian Nut Roll - year 3

This is Rebecca's first time making Croatian nut roll. She loved rolling out the dough. I love sharing this tradition with her!

Curls

This hat is one I picked up at a yard sale for Rebecca's dress up box collection. I pulled a couple of the hats out for her a couple of weeks ago. Don't you love those curls?

Like Mother, Like Daughter?

Rebecca likes wiping off her little table. The other night when she was wiping it down, she was being so picky about how the dishcloth was arranged. She wanted it to be all laid out and flat. She'd wipe the table just a little, and stop to straighten the dishcloth. Wipe the table, stop to straighten the dishcloth. . . this went on for 15 minutes. Stephen says she gets it from me, but I know I was not that bad! (At least I don't think so.)

Wallbuilders

Two weeks ago, Stephen went to a WallBuilders conference in Dallas. I had heard David Barton speak before, and have always enjoyed it and learned so much. If you haven't heard of WallBuilders, it's an organization started by David Barton to show America's moral foundation and Christian heritage. Stephen has a cousin who lives in Dallas, so Rebecca and I went along for the trip too. While Stephen was conferencing, Rebecca and I went to some thrift stores, Goodwill stores, and did some sightseeing with Kenny, Holly, and Jimmy and Libby around Dallas. I don't have any pictures from our tourist adventures because I forgot to bring my camera. Gasp! I know! So I'll have to get some pictures from Libby and Holly.

Anyhoot, Rebecca and I even got to tour the WallBuilders' library with Stephen and the other legislators, for which I did have my camera. It was super cool! There is so much history and documents there! Bibles, letters, Revolution rifles, great stuff! I know I've told a bunch of people this, but I still think it's pretty great. . .there's a painting of the signing of the Declaration of Independence by John Trumbull. This one. If you were to point at any man in that painting, David Barton can tell you his name, occupation, what he did, accomplished, believed, said, wrote, relatives, religious beliefs, favorite color. Well maybe not favorite color, but just about everything else about them. You can find a lot on the WallBuilders website here. Or give Stephen a call, and he'll talk your ear off about American history! He loved it, and has been telling everyone about it. :)
