11/10/12 yard sales

I went to yard sales with a friend today, and we had a great time and I found a lot of great deals. I got lots of clothes for Rebecca, books to put back for Rebecca(including Nancy Drew, Encyclopedia Brown, Little Women, the Wind in the Willows), vintage Christmas ornaments, jar tongs, an orange/pineapple candle, batting, ties, and a few other goodies. Paula got a very nice, new briefcase and new curtain tie backs. It's been a good day!

Yard Sales 11/3/12

Joy and I had a great day at yard sales. My favorite purchase is my porch swing! I have wanted one for so long!I also got a drying rack, twin headboard/footboard, a huge ball of yarn, a couple of vintage sheets and pillowcases. Not a bad day at all!

There were quite a few yard sales, not a lot, but I still found a few good things. I got a couple of flags, a nice men's shirt, some sheets, a small rake I'll turn into fall decor for our front door ( I saw it on Pinterest), a vintage metal chair, some craft stuff, a vintage camera and a few other things.

Yard sales 10/6/2012

This is one of my favorite things about fall. . .yard sales! Summer is too hot, and winter is too cold for yard sales, at least for me. My yard sale-going was cut short by rain, but I still had a good day. Some vintage sheets and pillowcases for sewing, a dress for Rebecca, a jadeite Fire King bowl, a couple of Holly Hobbie decals, a milk glass candy dish I'll probably turn into a bird feeder, and a set of 3 Care Bears Pizza Hut glasses. I need two more to complete the set of glasses. Love those!

Yard Sales 9/22/12

Here are a few of our yard sale findings from today. My grandmother started today early and found lots of great stuff. I got lots of really great fabric, mostly scraps (some which I have already started using), vintage linens, a cute pair of new red shoes for myself, a nice Christmas gift for Stephen, a purse, a shirt for Stephen, Rebecca, and me (not the same shirts), a vintage pattern, some free pool noodles to be turned to wreaths, an old desk for Rebecca, a white tablecloth to be turned to tea towels, a basket I'll decorate to hang on our front door (thanks yard sale lady for giving me the idea!) and probably a few other things I've forgotten. My grandmother found a jacket, a few things for Rebecca, my niece and nephews, including two pairs of cowboy boots for the boys. I love Saturday mornings!

Yard Sale haul 9/8/12

I had a great day going to yard sales today! I got Stephen 5 very nice dress shirts, a polo shirt, a pair of black dress pants, a sweater for me, some clothes for Rebecca (jeans, shirt/skirt set, sweater/hat set, shirt, and a sweater), fabric and trim, a bunch of different jars (including two half gallon mason jars!), a couple of yummy fall-ish candles, a book for Jillian, and a couple of other things Rebecca decided she wanted to play with. One is a new pool noodle. I know they're really cheap at Walmart, but who wants to go there? ;-) And it was brand new, and only .25 cents. We'll use it in her twin bed (when we get one) like here to keep her from falling out of bed. That's the theory anyway. She also likes the pink and black gloves that go with a hat and sweater set I got her. I spent a total of $20 today. Not bad, considering I could have easily spent that much on one new dress shirt!! :-)

I'm so glad it's cooling off! I really, really missed yard sales!

Bargains Galore, day 2

These were my findings from Friday, the second day of Bargains Galore. I got some vintage linens, tights for Rebecca, three nice shirts for Stephen, and a vintage hobnail milk glass lamp. I love hobnail milk glass. The cat always wants to be in my pictures, then she acts nonchalant like she doesn't care. Cats are like that.

Bargains Galore day 1

 

They really need do this thing at a different time of year. We would have gone a lot longer if it wasn't so hot! I found two men's shirts, cloth napkins, a shirt, headbands, and pants for Rebecca, vintage fabric, work gloves, a mason jar (love those wide mouth pints), two vintage button cards with all the buttons, a couple of embroidered pillowcases, and lots of vintage sheets! I'll have lots of sewing projects now :)

Six friends, one BIG yard sale

Last weekend was our big yard sale. BIG yard sale. Joy and I always have ours together, and last time a friend of hers joined us. This time it was Joy, her friend, three of my friends, and me. We had a lot of stuff! You can't even see it all in this picture. It was big, definitely the biggest yard sale we've had, and maybe the biggest one I've ever seen. Have I used the word 'big' enough yet? We sold all of our big items, got rid of a ton of stuff, had fun, and made a little bit of money. I think we did very well! The only thing I didn't like was hearing from all of our customers how many great yard sales were out there! I do get tired of doing this though. It's a lot of work, and I always say I'll buy less stuff at yard sales in the future. No one ever believes me.

Yard Sales 3/17/12

Today my mom and I went to yard sales. We did pretty good. I got a blue vintage sheet, and it's a king size, so I'll be able to sell a bunch of fat quarter from it! I got a few vintage patterns. A couple of them are baby patterns, so I'll use those for decorating for Joy's baby shower. Joy loves the pink and brown combo, and she wanted a teething blanket for Baby Jillian, and this one looks almost new. And I really love this jewelry box. It was full of jewelry when I took the picture, so the lid really does close all the way. I don't really care for the jewelry, so I'll sell it next month at our yard sale, even though Rebecca had fun going through it with me.

Our big yard sale

Joy, Joy's friend, & I had our annual yard sale this weekend. It was our first two day yard sale, & the best & biggest one we've had. I love getting rid of things! Things we don't need or use that is. This picture was taken before we got everything out, & there were still things we didn't put out because we ran out of table space. It feels good to clean out!

Vintage Sheets

I've been hunting for vintage sheets the last couple of months. I decided I want to make a quilt once I've collected enough different ones. Maybe a zig zag quilt like this one. I still need to find some more to have enough different patterns. The hunt is always fun. The sheet at the bottom and the pillowcase on top) that has red in it is the set I found at Goodwill last weekend. Love that one.

Yard Sales and thrifting

I found a few yard sales Saturday, and then I stopped by at the Goodwill store before going home. At Goodwill I found 4 hardback books from the 1960's, a milk glass lamp with a shade, and a full set of vintage sheets. I forgot to take a pictures of the sheets, but I really like them. Very pretty! I was saying last week that our Goodwill store wasn't very good, but this time I found some treasures. At yard sales I found a bunch of board books with flaps and peekaboo pages, (Rebecca loves those), a hamper, a some Veggie Tales videos. Rebecca doesn't watch tv, she's never been interested. But she does like music, so I thought I would try some sing along videos. Now our VCR isn't working. And I think I even sold one a while back at a yard sale! So that's something else to be on the lookout for.

11-6-2010 yard sales

Yard sales this past weekend were great!

We went by an estate sale at 8:40, and no one was there. So we went back an hour later and the place was packed. It was obvious two different people priced everything. Anything was masking tape price tags was way overpriced, even for an estate sale. Anything with florescent yard sale stickers was priced right. I found a couple of things, and fortunately for me the lady who was using stickers was the one taking payments on the way out, so she gave us an even better deal. :)

It was a great day for fabric and vintage sheets!! I got more fabric for my Christmas projects, and more vintage sheets for my collection. I got a table (the white one) to replace Steve's nightstand. The one he's been using isn't even really a nightstand. So now we'll use it as a temporary table for his computer. I got the black table for $2!!! This isn't a great picture, but it looks really old. I really like the legs. The knobby part looks really ornate and such. I'll have to get a better picture. The top is can and not in the best shape, but I'd be afraid of messing it up if I tried to redo it. So it will do fine as is. I also got a metal card box to use for my recipes.

Here's the stash of fabric and vintage linens I picked up. I even found an old embroidery pattern.

Yard Sales

This past weekend was a busy one, so I looked for yard sales Friday. I only found two, but I did pretty well. I got a lot of fabric scraps, some Little Swimmer diapers for next summer, a Strawberry Shortcake dvd, a couple of feed sacks for a future project, some clothes. Lots of good stuff. Hopefully this Friday will be better because I can't go again this Saturday.

A couple of my findings. . .

Joy and I found a few sales Saturday, including a couple that we found by accident even thought they had no signs, a few signs that had no sale, and a "mara" sale. I don't know what mara means, but it looked like a lot of baby clothes to me. We just drove by that one and didn't see much of interest. We're those people. I found several things I liked this weekend. I like these silver plated serving tongs, and the Pyrex dish.

I love the Amish farmer looking pattern. Isn't it purtiful?

Yard Sales 9-10-2010

Joy and I had a good day Friday hunting for yard sales. There were not as many as we would have liked, but we did pretty well. I got some serving utensils and a bunch of vintage linens (dish towels, table runners, etc.) for .25 cents - .50 cents. One of those was a twin flat sheet I think will work well for curtains in the guest bedroom. The vintage things were my favorite find of the day, but I also got a picture frame to repaint, a wire basket, beads for Rebecca to play with (more on this later), a couple of books, a metal bread tray, and a Strawberry Shortcake game. Joy didn't find much until we passed a place with a bunch of kids' clothes for .25 cents each, even blue jeans! We had to turn around to get back to that one, but it was worth the stop.

Favorite books

When we were in Florida last December, Kelly took us to a bookstore that was closing. All of the books were $1, and she picked this one out for Rebecca. It is Rebecca's favorite book! We read it over and over and over. . .

She really loves it. Really. Over and over and over.

She really likes this one too. It comes in a distant second. I got this one at a yard sale last year.

Bargains Galore on 64

This weekend is the 11th year of Bargains Galore on 64. Joy and I decided to head toward Vilonia for a little while yesterday. The thought of so many bargains in one place was enough for me to make an exception to my no yard sales in August rule. I found two Pampered Chef stones (one new, one almost new), a couple of books, a pair of pants (for me), a window valence, a recipe box, a bunch of silverware and utensils, a box toy with shapes, some gourds, and my favorite find of the day, a pair of milk glass lamps. Joy is jealous of my Pampered Chef finds, since she walked right past them both and didn't even see them! Today I spent a total of $12.

I almost forgot about these gourds, my first purchase today. I like them all golden and autumny-looking, 50 cents each.

I love these hobnail milk glass lamps! I've wanted one since I saw one on The Lettered Cotttate blog. Mine work fine, but the glass globes aren't original to the lamps. But I loooove them! And they were only $4 for the set! What a deal!

This house recipe box is really country looking, so I'm going to paint it white and black. I think it would be a nice gift full of recipes, kind of like the one I made for my fabulous sister in-law Naomi. I'm still thinking about how exactly I want this one to look.

I'm liking the vintage-y feel of this window valence. It was .10 cents! Today I coffee dyed it and hung it in our kitchen window.


We remember why we don't like to yard sale in August. It's so hot! My grandmother, who still lives in South Florida doesn't mind going to yard sales when it's hot. But we sure do. Our finds from the weekend have gotten us excited to get back at it next month though!

I was planning on staying home this morning from the bargain hunting, but the cat woke me up at 6:00 this morning. I couldn't get back to sleep, so I got up and headed out the door at 6:40. I found a couple of things. I got some storage containers for my cleaning supplies, fleece jammies for Rebecca, white basket for toy storage, set of 3 rugs, vintage salt & pepper shakers, and a couple of other things. I bought these little salt and pepper shakers from a nice little lady. She gave me that red Christmas candle and told me to think of her this Christmas. She was so sweet. She told me she has a collection of over 2,000 salt and pepper shakers! That's a lot of salt and pepper!

I got back home this morning and Steve said he wanted us to all go back out together. That's when I found my two glass covers for .25 cents each to go on my lamps I bought yesterday.

I will definitely be ready to have a yard sale in October to make room for the new stuff we've gotten!
